I noticed Dogless traps are a little more expensive. Like Dogless bridgers run about a dollar more than there dogged traps. I was wondering what advantages there are to a Dogless trap? If any. I like the dogged traps cause seems screen wire sits better on them.

Less chance of the dog kicking the foot out of the trap was the trap closes. I've recently picked up a few Bridger dogless traps to try out.

There is no dead spot on the dogless trap. Enough pressure on any part of the pan on the dogless will fire the trap. The dog is a dead spot on a dog on trap.

JMO you can make a traditional trap perform like a dogless but it takesa bit of tuning and guiding therefore the dogless traps are a little more forgiving and seeing a greater demand.

I run plenty of dog on traps but love my dogless. Pans generally set lower and I get some pretty deep catches. Montana’s, jakes, sterlings, 650s, Vic/Monty’s and bridger dogless.

I personally don't like dogless traps. I do make the exception for the ts-85.

But to your question I can't see any disadvantages with a dogless trap just my personal preference is dog on.

Just a question. You are considering the 650s dogless? I would have said the 650s and 750s were dogged traps, they don't have the traditional over jaw dog, but they do have a dog that holds the jaws down and the pan up, that then flips up when the pan is depressed. Side note, my 750s have a worse deadspot than any other traps I own. I don't own or have ever used any dogless traps unless you consider the mb650 and mb 750 traps dogless. Nothing against them, just most of my traps are old traps I have had for years and many were my fathers before me, made before the dogless designs became popular. I can't really comment on the advantages of dogless since I've never used them, but I've never had a problem with dog on designs or seen any evidence of a dog flipping a critters foot out.

It gets worse left lane. Some I can’t explain like the double back foot male and the crawler. Dog on bridger 3s.

The crawler would be a rolling response my guess and some of the other really deep catches

The ones caught deep in the corner are in slanted trench sets. 99% are either caught like that or double front footed. That ankle catch was at a pipe set and I’ve seen quite a bit of rolling on my pipes while testing lures. You might be right yes sir.

Fewer misses, no dead spot, screen. But I prefer the tension to be adjustable with a tension screw that stays were I adjust it. Great examples Yoteguts. Double back paw? weird.

The Bridger dogless traps do have adjustable tension pans.

Don't the dogless Bridgers also have a bigger pan, makes for a bigger Target area. All I run are the dogless Bridgers and the K.O. Extremes. Don't plan on ever going back to dog on traps.

True but I was referencing Montanas, old Monties and Vic Monties , etc. ..Dogless Bridgers do have a bigger pan than most. I prefer the pan to be below jaw level. More screen friendly.

Now whenever I see the fox leaping up in the air and coming down with both front feet to penetrate the crusted snow I will think of you and your deep + 2 footed catches. Short of that I cant explain it either but they sure as heck wont be pulling out of your traps LOL

MB 550. I had a chain about 20 inches long. to be fair If I used a chain 12'' long or shorter or a chain 30'' long I never got this problem. 5 out of the first dozen I had.

There isn’t always no dead spot on dogless traps what makes them free of dead spot is when the pivot point on the pan is under or outside of the jaws ! Mb 650 and mb750 and bridger do have a dead spot. I can’t remember the others. The Montana and Montgomery have no dead spot!
