I may be odd man out here, I live in Idaho but don’t have a desire to purposely go after wolves. If you have them in your area and it was lawful, how great of a desire would you have to go after them?

I have a big desire to go after the wolves. Each year it’s grown. Next year my goals are way higher than maybe possible. Wolves and Bears are taking a hurting this year from me and my family.

Not much. I would prefer to spend the time making marten sets. Much more lucrative in the long run. And the marten don't stink like wolves do

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

I'd love to get one, but wish our state regs were set up such that they were closer to prime when the season occurs. That is, assuming it ever gets legalized again. I just got into trapping when the first 3 wolf seasons happened in WI and never drew a tag.

Would be cool to hunt them too.

Wolves are the wariest critter you will ever trap. I get a real sense of accomplishment every time I catch one. Yea they stink but they are worth 10-15 marten ( at least) at todays prices anyway. I do trap in an area where I get a bonus for every wolf though. I've gotten $1000 plus the bonus for nice ones too. Wolverine is still my favourite critter to trap, but wolves are a close second.

do unto others as you would have them do unto you

Imagine it took quite a few wolves to arrive at that realization though?

Grandpa, No need to think you're the odd man out. They're a lot of work and pretty low success rates. A ton of other really cool opportunities to do with your trapping time here in ID instead. I enjoy the challenge of pursuing them, but I'm smack dab in the middle of wolf country. Love to trade the experience for some southern ID muskrats or coyotes though!

I would agree with J Park. If there was all kinds of balance, my desire would be only about so so. If the dear and elk were getting thinned down, I'd probably want to do the same for the local wolf packs. Where I am at, the coyotes and hogs populations need thinned and my beloved bobcats are far from being endangered. I can only anticipate what I would do if I had to deal with wolves but if I seen them after livestock I would probably go into auto pilot for a spell or two

In would want to intentionally catch one just because I could say I did then would go from there. Because I have never caught one and don't really see any sign locally I can't give a good answer. I trap coyote for the challenge, if I did like white17 says I could trap beaver and rats and make more money because they are everywhere. I trap some of those every year for bait.

Wish I had more time to trap....

I remember how down in the dumps I was after my big stroke and was feeling low about not havinf the same desires as the Seasons came.

I'm chompping at the bit I have 3 preference points . Just waiting for the political games to end with the delisting . I just wish the DNR would not give out mass volumes of tags like they did in the past when quota was met in 2 days . They could back off on the permits so people could enjoy the experience for awhile .

I had a God moment this week, actually about 3 already. Wolves get stuck in a trap, we are free to change directions anytime we choose.

I'd love to trap a wolf. If/when WI ever gets a season back.

I clearly don't have any wolves where I'm at but I would love to catch one or two someday.

Absolutely!!! However I am not willing to travel outside my regular turf to do it. If some show up at a coyote bait I'll gladly and quickly change gears. I've never caught one but know guys very nearby who catch a lot of wolves. I feel the same when I am hunting in the fall, I'd gladly kill a wolf if given the chance.

I caught 2 wolves It was cool but I could care less about trapping any more. It's the same with hunting black bears I killed one and I could care less about killing another one.

My buddy catches 3 or 4 every year In Northern WI he said It's no big deal It's like catching big coyotes.
