Thinking about trying some #5 Longsprings for Beaver. Just want to try something different other than the TS85 I have been using the last few years. My question is are any of the #5 Longsprings setable over the knee without setters considering a fella of average strength is setting them? What brand Longspring is favored for the beaver in water? Appreciate any input.

I can set the bridgers over my knee quite easily. I bought them a few weeks ago and won’t be able to try them till December though.

I have a half dozen #5 LS bridgers in my arsenal for nuisance beaver jobs. Not hard to set over knee, can be a bit difficult with a big hog beaver in them.In that case, instead of over the knee its under the knee.

I set all my double longs over my knee, fairly easy compared to setting stout coils in my opinion. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

When I got my doz. of #5DLS I got the setting tool for them then . That way if it comes to that I can not do it over my knee that I already have the tool .That time came for me to need to use the tool.

Like the guy in the picture is great for me. Like his Bridger, I put PAWS pans and dogs on them. IMO it is a great combination. Another alternative is to make a Jiffy type setter, which I use on my Sleepy Creek 4 1/2 dls. I say make because the Jiffy is not big enough around to effectively compress the spring far enough without putting something between the setter and the spring to compress it more. Can be built easily without welding. Look at pic below. The lever rolls over to the flat part which then rests on the spring compressing it. Worked great on #4s but the circumference of the whole end needs to be larger. I would think that a more pronounced cam lever could just about set any ls in existence...thanks for sharing!
