Does anyone know where I can get bulk #4 straight link chain ? like 500 feet.

I'm doing away with all my double loop chain and cables that are on my body grips and my muskrat footholds, always just a tangled mess and since I'm changing all my swivels over to jc conners rod swivels I figured now is the time.

Just checked both MTP and F&T , no #4 listed. I would think #2 would be sufficient for your purpose. Available at both

I'm not sure but I think all trapping suppliers label their chain wrong. Look at the work load against this chain size

It looks like the chain they advertise is #2 and 1/0 with 1/0 being stronger

MTB advertises #2 twist chain at a work load of 310 lbs and #3 twist chain at 465 lbs and by the chart above it is actually

#2 and 1/0 sizes

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes but the chain companies designation of #4 is 215 # and about what you need. The number 2 from trapping companies would work but a little more than you need.It may be cheaper than you can get from most chain companies.

I think you're agreeing with me, but the above people was thinking I wanted to put bigger chain on my muskrat traps then what comes on a mb 550 which is not the case and yeah I figured a 215 lb. Work load and 800 lb breaking strength would be more than I need on 1 1/2s and body grip traps.

I did find a place i can get what I'm looking for #4 twist link chain for $104.00 for 300 feet and free shipping.

I am agreeing with you. That is not a bad deal, especially with free shipping.I use almost all, twist link.Right now,I have #2 twist link on some 330's.I have some real small twist link,on my 1.5's and believe it is probably #5 chain company designation. It is really cool for muskrat, mink and coons.I believe what you have chosen is about perfect for the traps you named.I sure like it better thancable or sunset chain.I think my 330's have about 4'.I just wrap it around the trap and hook it off with a quick link.

Me too.I just don't like the handling qualities. The twists in it allow water, mud and other gunk to get trapped and cause hidden rust in there,as well.

Ahh so it's the smaller than #2 your looking for. I got some at Fleet and Farm for my 150s . But it was pricey. I spoke with Tim Cavin about getting some, he explained its costs more because more welds equal more labor. So I went with #2 for the rest of my BGs. That twin loop is junk, cable rusts out after 1 season of hard trapping. Yotes bend it into pretzels.

Yeah I'm happy, only. .35 a foot of #4 twist link chain. For the size I wanted and being twist link chain to boot and a little lighter than #2 chain I'm actually ecstatic. $105 .00 no tax and free shipping for 300 feet. Order it yesterday and they shipped it today.

Manufacturer Express Inc. The rest of their chain seems about right or higher priced that mtb but what I got is super cheap compared to every one else . When I get it , and if it's nice chain I will probably buy 300 or 600 more feet of it.

I have always thought the trapping houses were using metric sizes, most of the world does and import stuff would be marked that way. The chart above is for American made chain.

I thought that is what the trapping houses were implying American made since they offer quality chain and imported chain.
Why would they use metric systems when advertising American chain and why on ther foriegn made traps say 1/4 offset?

I pulled the twist link and replaced with cable on my body grips for 5 years. Then I bought some MB1216s from an older beaver trapper who is a 600-700 a year type guy. He had #2 twin loop chain (same as a #1 Victor longspring chain) in 6 ft lengths on every beaver BG he owned. I thought he was daffy. He said to me, "That cable is what your tripping over all the time on them connies. You put this on it lays on the bottom and you don't trip on it. Held 1000s of beavers and every otter for me, never broke. Best yet, it doesn't tangle."

I used that trap in the spring. Then put it on a dozen 330s that fall. Changed 4 more dozen over this spring. As usual, the guy with decades of experience is right. I do not take off the chain as I wrap around the trap and spring snap/split ring attach to itself. Hardly tangles even in a crate. Cable would not stay wrapped so I had to always detach it or it got unwrapped.

All water BG traps are getting 6 ft now except the 220s I also use on land which I will keep cabled. 310 lb working load and minimum break is over 1200 lbs. on your chart. I use mostly #2 machine chain on my mink traps as I get otter in them and they are not drowners for otter.
