I'm looking for a lot in the area of Central/Circle Hot Springs. If you know of anyone looking to sell five acres or so, PM me.

Made an offer on a cabin on Red Fox Ave but we couldn’t come together on a price. Lot on Grizzly Bear Rd was on the market for over a year and sold the week I found it. Of course...

Curious as to what the attraction to Central/Circle area is. Hot springs is closed now. Not terribly good marten country. Caribou are only around there for a bit in falltime....?

Liked the remoteness, the road system, and closeness to Steese. Talked to someone today that has a place there and got some good guidance on what it’s really like there in the winter. Have a while before retirement and not really married to a particular area, just found it intriguing.

Pete, where would you suggest someone look for a place if they were inclined to spend winter in the woods? Manley Hot Springs area has been suggested. Your thoughts?

In his later years, Pete has discovered that you can trap in warmer places....!

To be at all helpful, I would have to know more about what you were really looking for. Just a place to live? A place to try and make "wages" trapping? What trapping and cold weather skills do you have? Will you need to supplement your retirement money with seasonal work of some kind?

It is not as simple as just pointing to a spot on the map.

I'm glad I made the decision to move North when I was 20, not at 65! But if a raggedy teenage rat trapper from NJ can make it in Alaska (and grow up to be President of Alaska Trappers and hold a Master Guide license) I bet you can do it too. It's just harder to do later in life.

Bottom line is that Alaska is way different from wherever you come from (unless you are moving here from the Yukon or Siberia!) WAY different.

Pete

Pete I’ll pm you. I’d love to have a conversation with you and get your input if you can spare a moment. Don’t tell anyone, but I actually trust you guys to give good advice. I’ve been on here since 2012 as sanfo008 and I’ve said before that you all are the largest collection of random knowledge I’ve ever seen in one place, and you haven’t let me down yet.

Wylee, you’ve got ten years before I retire and I don’t see me hurting the population too bad! Lol! Lots of big country I’m sure we can all get along!

I’ve talked to several of you guys, but if any others from the area wouldn’t mind having a phone conversation about the ins and outs of the area I would really appreciate it. Just PM me.
