While all rest of you was looting and burning, getting your new big screen TV... I clean out some odds and ends been tripping over and collecting all winter.. Didn't have anything special just some aluminum cans, a bit of sheet aluminum. The rest plain old sheet steel tin, metal cans, old water pipe, angle iron, crap not worth sorting..
Price wasn't as bad on sheet tin as I was thinking might be, but don't pay to steal hub caps..I know my nephew took a load last month was $50 ton then.
Today's prices 6/2/20
Old sheet iron--------------$70. ton Old Sheet Aluminum-----$0.15 per pound Aluminum Cans-----------$0.23 per pound
Can tell prices are low no line of trucks and cars with trailers and most yard piles aren't real big..

Thanks for posting, Mac. One scrap yard in my neck of the woods stop taking aluminum cans. I think you got decent prices overall. My scrap steel price 4$ per 100 lbs.

Heard that the place up road my nephew took his scrap too wasn't taking cans right now because of the potential virus germ's??? not sure if that is true or they just couldn't move them right then. I've hauled to them in the past when there was enough price difference. They sometimes pay more than Alter where I usually go. But I have to drive past Alter and another 12 miles up the road to get there. So I usually don't bother hauling there unless is big load with enough stuff to make the price difference worth it.. I have a small buckets of brass and copper going didn't take this trip. Their not so in my way that I can wait with them go later when price bumps up. Mac

Aluminum cans here paying $.25 a pound. I won't sell them for that price. I've got some #1 and #2 copper, plus some yellow brass. I can sit on it until the price goes up; don't really need the money.

The Technician that works beside me takes all of our scrap from car repairs. He just hauled a load off this weekend. He said he got $6 per 100 pounds but a lot of it was brake rotors so that may have helped push the price up.

$70/ton here in Eastern Wisconsin on a load I sold last week. For me I just wanted some items cleaned-up from the yard and shed so I could quit tripping over them or looking at them. Bigger items I can see saving until price rebounds.

Only paying $20/ton here now for scrap. Hardly worth it.
Hopefully that price is for shred steel, but even then I would rather let it rust away than to sell it for that price.

I would like all the scrappers to be aware of what has taken place as the dollar signs are all they see.
I have a Henry Ford made digger. I needed to drill a hole in the frame of this American steel. I used up two new bits on it and the hole was not drilled. Most of the quality steel in America was scrapped and sold to China, which in turn has sold it back to America. I put a bolt in a tractor two bar and it wore off, and this was listed as hard steel. I have purchased numbers of Chinese made cast iron, compared to my American cast pans, it takes twice as much heat to get them up to temperature and maintain heat, because the Chinese have such inferior production and not any quality control. The best smelted steel, copper, aluminum etc.. ever produced came out of the United States, and it is basically all gone. Those old blast furnaces are not replicated for the quality they turned out. We are never going to get back what we gave away, as the Chinese stole metals which were worth a hundred times what they were sold for.
Japan purchased most of American scrap before World War II and returned it in war. China is moving to start another war, as they will not pay for this coronavirus plague.
