Anyone got any ideas on how to keep snapping turtles out of 330's in the summer? I set up a property that had two dams on it. The older dam was under about a foot of water because the newer dam was slightly higher. I set two 330's on the older dam and fenced them in. I busted a small hole in the higher dam. The next day I had a large female. The traps sat empty for a couple days with no new sign or attempts to repair the dam. I went in today and both 330's had snappers in them. Both were health and seemed to be unharmed so I released them. I pulled the sets and made the hole in the upper dam bigger. I'll go back to see if there's any repairs to the dam, but I really don't want to waste any more time setting traps if they're going to be plugged up with turtles.

Footholds are the only thing I've yet to catch snappers on beaver jobs, yet.
I've caught them in 330s, snares and cages.
Change your sets. Get off the channels and bank dens. Do the lost lure set off channel, floating 330s/cages, make your own pull outs/mud pies off channel.

Summer is a headache with turtles. I have only gotten lucky a few times in late spring and early summer finding a feed where they coming out of water over a levee etc.... otherwise I use footholds. Just ain’t much of a way around it.

Sure Mike, NEVER set them dam break sets.
Set them at their slides or slides ya made or mounds lured with BTO. Or even NO lure.
Just make sure to blend natural like debris fell or floated there NOT the picket fence look cuz ya never know if they been pinched with that setup somewhere else.
Dam break sets get a CDR or #5 4 coil.

We had some traps stolen from this pond during fur season so we pulled out before they came back and found the rest. The beaver don't live in this pond, but on the other side of the tracks. They access the pond by two large culverts that run under the tracks. Only problem is that the culverts are in the deepest part of the pond and are hard to get near unless the water is dropped. There was one crawl over and I had both ends covered by snares. The channels I cut through the old dam were deep enough to submerge a 330 in. Think I was just getting lazy and didn't want to mess around with setting a drowning set. Both turtles seemed unharmed, but p!$$ed. I'll be going after some turtles in this pond when the season comes in.

I'm pretty much sticking to snares, footholds and cages anymore for post season beaver jobs. Beaver aren't hard to cage, I'll be adding a few more swim through cages this year as I'm running into more and more problems during the fur season where I can't really do what I need to do within the rules on 330s and snares on public grounds

I did have a couple snares on a crawl over. One had been pulled off the support and pulled out into deep water. Think it was a muskrat. Didn't see any sign of a beaver crawling out anyway and its pretty soft mud on the crawl over. We use a lot of snares when we're trapping public ground. Only beaver trapping on public ground here is by drawing a permit. I went back this morning to look at the pond after the storms we had yesterday. Hole in dam is still flowing with no repairs made.

I would put 1 foot wide 1 foot deep holes in both Dam’s, making sure they are making loud gurgling noises, Checking every couple days for Repair, and still give it a Week before pulling out.

X 2. Footholds are the way to go. I have only caught one snapper in a foothold. A 330 will fill up 3 to 4 nights in a row. Anything caught that ain't a beaver cost you money

I caught a huge snapper this morning in a 330. Can't get it out of my trap because it bloated overnight and is gag inducing.

I chained it to a tree. I'll get it in a couple weeks.
