Here is a quick and dirty DIY project. I had some scrap laying around a made a snare swivel tool.

Took a piece of pipe and beat it into an oblong shape, drilled a hole through it for a stout nail (1/4”) to go through it and welded it onto something I could clamp into a vise. The nail has a piece of flat stock for a handle.



I then took a long 1/2” socket and filled it full of nuts, tack welded the last in place, and added a couple 1/4” rods on the side protruding past the front of the socket a ways to make teeth. I then cut an old socket extension to use in a drill.




Using about 9” of 9 gauge galvanized wire I wrap it around the back of the pipe under the rod. In the front the left leg goes on top of the rod if your drill is rotating clock-wise.



Slide the socket onto the rod with the teeth positioned to grab the wire. With #9 be sure to hang onto the drill as it is pretty stout when you first start twisting.



I like to spin the drill kinda slow to make sure it is twisting even. My loss rate goes up if I go full throttle.



After it is spun on I like to bend the ends with my pliers then use the pliers to tap the rod out of the jig.

These were built with 3/32” and even 1/8” cable in mind. The cable is sloppy in it. I may build another forming rod out of some smaller rod diameter (maybe 3/16”) but not a big deal either way IMO.
