I don't understand what you mean about no movement.Wood doesn't pull back like a coyote foot.If A coyote foot gets in there and the levers are against the lever stops, that is good lockup.

He means if you put a square piece of wood in there (the thickness of your target animals foot, with the jaws closed, you can't turn the block. Some traps while doing this test will open back up. The Bridger 1.5's were really bad for this. The levers couldn't rise high enough, with a target animals foot sized thickness of wood in the jaws, so they slipped back down allowing the jaws to open,,, thus requiring the grinding of the outside of the jaws, like in the picture below, to increase it's holding ability without having to overpower the springs...

A critters foot Is nothing like a chunk of wood. A critters foot cruses down when In a trap there Is no way that It can twist It's foot to open the trap jaws. They use to do the screw driver test to test lock up. Another test with no reasoning behind It.

That is exactly why I say TWICE the wood had to be the size of the critters foot. As you know the lock up is the most important part of the traps holding ability. You have preached that for years in relation to not needing hugly over powered springs.

There's another way to fix those bridges without grinding ADC,only takes a minute for each trap.

Really doesn't matter to me, I don't like any bridger traps much, don't own a one. I just was using them as an example.

Bought one to check out and I measure it at EXACTLY six inches across from the dog. Actual measurement seems to be a touch smaller than the advertised 6 1/8 which is fine with me. Found out quickly that I’m not man enough to be setting these things by hand. 2 coils will be enough for me!

All the testing with wood doesn't mean a thing. Over time with living tissue as the jaws compress until the jaw contact points meet is how to test lockup. Does anyone have a pic with a live coyotes paw in it? Were does the jaw strike, on the paw or the leg?? Is there slack between the jaws and the levers when an animal is in it? Paw moves, paw gets cut. Is the jaw surface wide enough to displace the spring power? This is why I ask in the beginning if they had been tested on an actual trapline. No lab or stick can duplicate that. Way to many variables. Some we don't realize until a coyote steps in it.

Well, its very common for traps that do not hold animals well in the field to fail the wood test, so I can't discount its viability.
