What’s everyone’s go to bait and starting method for coon jobs for this time of year? I normally use a handful of bbq peanuts and a fruity smelled coon lure in a durapoly trap

Been having good luck with marshmallows and sweet cereal (cheep). With berries soon to ripen, I used jelly.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Scrambled eggs with a couple drops of anise extract works good in Dura-Poly and cage traps around here. The cheap anise extract found in a grocery store is all that is needed.

Lots of trap shy coon here so if I got a good hole it gets a 220.

Finding a bait that will keep a raccoon out of a cage could bring you fame and fortune around here!

This last week has been hard trying to get the sows in cages. With the pups they aren’t really wanting any sort of bait

I caught 2 sows 6 young ones. I have been using cheap cat food with strawberry syrup on it. It's been setting a while in jug. Yesterday ran out of it. Used cheap dry catfood with carmel syrup on top. The coons started running owners back inside sometimes. Running cats off from there food too. Back of the house is 75 yds from a big lake. No telling how many coons live there.

I like to use several baits at each trap. I smear a cheap cookie with WCS Corndog bait and throw it in the back. Then I break one up and put a couple of pieces in front of the trap and trail some in. I throw a handful of mini marshmallows in the back and trail some in. Then I put a few drops of super sweet coon lure in or dump some cherry jello powder in the back. I learned this concept from an article by Jonsie. I also stake every trap with a T stake to stabilize it. And I cover the floor with dirt or cardboard or something so they don't have to walk on wire. I know that you can catch most coon by throwing a trap down and throwing a marshmallow in it but I treat every coin like a hard to catch one. I don't like to have to drive to a job for three days to figure out that I have a difficult coon. I think I catch most the first night. Coons are naturally greedy and MOST , even wary ones , can be caught with the right baiting and setting strategy. Just what works for me.

My go to bait for coon in a "coon cuff" no matter what time of year is and always has been the cheapest dog food you can find topped by dry corn.

Staking baited cage traps serves the purpose of bedding the trap so no more rocking. Every trap that I set is securely bedded to prevent trap movement. That and wearing clean rubber gloves and boots can double a catch rate resulting in finishing the project earlier.

3 baits / lures per set. It might only be in the mood for one bait, so it still gets caught.

If ya must use a cage, don't forget to tune it since NO traps come from the factory ready to go....cept most MB's
