The DNR was trying to protect our diminishing otter population. LOL Seems strange we get new people In charge and all of a sudden we can trap 2 otter and we don't have to do the lottery thing.
The DNR though that a trapper would be out trapping worthless coon In march and April so they decided we couldn't keep them. The mind set was just toss the incidentals.

We can know set on the dam. And we can keep incidental coon. Funny what happens when a few trappers show up and start asking questions when the state was doing the beaver management plan.

We couldn't trap with in 15' of a beaver dam. And what constituted a viable beaver dam was quite vague. In nature beavers build dams and dams are abandoned for whatever reason. The dam or parts of it remain in some cases for decades. Functioning as a dam or not you still could not place a trap within 15'. Lots of old abandoned beaver ponds are fur magnets and a lot of set opportunities were/are negated because of the 15' rule. Glad to see it go finally! Chris

You guys will be whackin and stackin the beavers now.Great place to make and keep sets productive during the freeze up,break up season. Didnt you have a similar restriction setting the lodge entrances?

No we could always trap the den entrances. When doing ADC work I never adhered to the 15' rule.

We can know set on the dam. And we can keep incidental coon. So if you got a ticket for this does it mean that now you’re pardoned?
