New guy here!

I wanted to post up and give a thank you for all the great information on this forum. I’m new to foothold trapping except for some very limited trapping as a teenager many years ago. I manage a hunting plantation in Georgia and was asked by the owners to gain some control of the coyote population when I began working for them. Predator hunting hadn’t had much effect, so I began the process of learning from places like YouTube and this forum.

Since late January I’ve managed to catch 4. At this point I’ve become pretty addicted and I’m beginning to gain confidence in my sets and sign reading. Again, thank you all for the great material, and I look forward to becoming a more proficient trapper.

Some days I think I could trap anything anytime. Others I wonder if I’ll ever make another catch...

Nice work, I really enjoy those color phase coyotes. I don't know why but a black one has always been on my list of things I'd like to find.

Yes, the black one looked amazing in person. The eyes were so bright and it was a neat experience driving up on him. The first one I caught is the one on the catch pole (I wouldn’t even try a pic until I had him poled I was so scared I’d lose him). Until then I’d never been close to a live coyote. It would be hard for me to shoot one while deer hunting now! Trapping is just too enjoyable.

It is a great time. I used to be a deer hunter. Multiple cameras out every year over 100's of miles chasing deer. I haven't shot a deer since 2009. I started trapping in 2004 but when I started trapping seriously it quickly overtook my love of deer hunting. People that come along on my line generally are just excited as me when they see that coyote or bobcat up close. You'll find it can get very addicting.

Good to see you here. We talked on GON before I was booted, lol. This is a great site and the archives are full of excellent info. I’ve basically owe all my success to this place, lol. Well, this and plenty of errors along the way. Most of these guys are top notch and share a wealth of info.

Thank you! Yes, GON can be hard to stay on. I’m always amazed how quickly people can be banned there even if they’ve been major contributors for ten plus years. The only complaint that I have about trapping is that it has such low participation in this area. I only have two friends that trap and my BIL is about to attempt it. I wish I knew more people to spitball with, but I’m glad this place is here for likeminded folks.

If our trapping ID numbers reflect the number of trappers in the State then there aren’t many of us.

Congrats on the coyotes. I’m in west ga and not many in my area either. But I really enjoy it.

Yes, you can get addicted even when catching nothing. My help, unfortunately, came at the very end of my season, so I have all offseason to recollect what I did wrong. Best of luck!

Congrats!
Someone needs to show him the secret handshake now too.
Wade...me too...I haven't hunted deer since oh 1980s or so. Been doing trapping in winter and fishing in summer ever since, and coyotes/coon make up bulk of my line focus.
