My flat sets get a lot of attention after their pulled too, if theirs any yotes left. Marty's lures work very well also. Location is very important but good lure will outperform bait in high pressure low populations.

Great post Yes sir, a trap buried in front of an attraction changes things a bit.. go deeper

What happened to your neighbor Bigshane is terrible. When he was up and running he cut a wide swath and if I was to catch any coyotes he missed I had to bring my A game.

He was still posting on here frequently when I first started lurking on here. I thought I'd like to meet him but never got the chance. I bet he got a Christmas card from Jimmy grin

If you want to sweeten the deal. Add a tiny bit of castor. Curiosity traps them all.

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

I often quote Major Boddicker and the decades of animal smell USDA research;
Multiple smells always out produced single agents.

There are situations when you need one smell to do one job of course.

For those commenting west of the Missouri River, I love the IA, NM, WY, NE, KS, OK, MT, ND coyotes. They dig and dig and dig.
Not so much in WI, MN, MI, OH, PA, VA, SC, NC, GA where I've trapped also.

Varying the tactics a bit can sure make a world of difference.

I m kind like Wade,, just bait early until November 15 or until all the pups are caught up then leave those sets as remakes then start with a few choose lures.
It is my belief it all depends on population density. ( high population high competition for food if so bait is the answer imo.
Low populations of nothing but adults and few stragglers lures get my vote. Late in the year say jan.15 and later fresh bait and lots of urine posts.
Baits and lure of natural ingredients only go a long way in helping you out imo.
Disclaimer I do not make any thing for sale.

I've got coyotes that will dig at almost anything decent and I got coyotes that will only come in for a sniff. The locations that they are difficult to get a digging response is were you find the formulations that are the keepers. Summer is also harder to get a digging response, but the smells that work in the summer and on the tougher locations really shine in trapping season has been my experience.

Yes sir.
Yes sir.

I'm trapping in 99 degrees here in TX today. Things are MUCH different when the dung beetles take turds in an hour, ants haul off protein, buzzards snatch your visual, and so forth. But coyotes need to be caught as it's fawn drop right now.

So we use varying tactics for some situations that are not two weeks, hammer down, take the cream and roll strategy.

I caught a pup today on a T-bone with just a dash of lure.
(man it's tough eliminating the pups). Wish it wasn't so.
He was weaned a bit already. Eating grasshoppers.
Female was yipping when I turned the buggy off about 200 yards away.
