So I'm taking a crack at making fish oil right now. Seems pretty straight forward. Got 10 gallons worth of fish in a few buckets. Over time after I've rendered/strained out the oil. What do y'all do with the leftover fish? I thought about putting the leftovers in a few locations before season for coyotes. Has anyone done this? If anything i thought the smell might catch there curiosity or give them a place to roll in.

I read a thread the other day that was from a book in the 1940s that said the author used to take an old tin can. Fill It up with fish and hang it in a tree with holes cut in the lid, so as the fish rendered down the oil would drip out. Would be a long lasting prebait. Anyways, was curious what you guys thought.

Charlie dobbins in his land trapping book talked about two liter bottle with ends cut off and wired up in a tree. Some absorbent material in the bottle and sun rendered fish or other powerful smells on the absorbent material. Point that thing into the prevailing winds as a calling card to pull predators in from the surrounding area.
Maybe the leftover fish could be used in an application like that during season?

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

that stuff left over after you get the oil off is for free ranging dogs . put it where the born free family dogs like to play. let them roll in it and take that gloriously putrid stench home to their irresponsible owners

That reminded me of the time I was driving up to my driveway on a 95 plus degree summer day and I could see something flopping around in the ditch. Thought a critter had been hit while trying to eat a coon that had been clobbered a few days before. Turned out it was the neighbors blue heeler - on its back rolling in the mostly liquid and maggot filled sludge that use to be the coon. It heard me driving up and it jumped up and made a beeline for the neighbors house, straight up the porch steps - and through the doggie door! Perfect. Never did see that dog running loose ever again.

preserved fish is a great land bait, so is the oil
the "juice" not as much since at times they want to roll on it.
