We just used the Victor #! longsprings, and the gophers were more dead than alive most of the time.

I have caught chipmunks and 13 lined ground squirrels by pouring water down their burrows and grabbing them as they exited the burrow. There is a YouTube video showing another method. It may be worth a try.

I always tied Victor rat traps to a solid object, often just a stake driven into the ground. This helps keep larger critters from dragging the trap away.

Jim Bethell made a trap that worked well for them. I tried to find a link and couldn't. Maybe he doesn't make them anymore? Not sure. It was a simple design. Around 3*3*12 inches long with a nose cone facing down. It had a gravity one way door.

He taught me you wait for a sunny day, set the traps over the holes, shortly after they fill up. It worked just fine but we don't have a lot of them around here. If you can't find them I have some I can spare. Send me a pm.

Funny story. Had a lady call with "gophers." She got a 5x5, double door, swing panel trap panless trap and went after them, catching a number of them in hours. I asked for a photo, which she sent after catching 9 of them quickly. I was a bit surprised at the photo and pointed out that her "gopher" was in fact a 13 line ground squirrel. She then said, "oops, I release them in gopher holes so I hope they get along." The swing panel traps worked great. They can be used with nose cones right over the den like we use them for chipmunks or baited in single or double door mode. Judy has caught 24 chipmunks by the garden so far. Our neighbor borrowed one an caught a bunch of wood rats.
