Which have you had any experience with and what's your opinion on them? I am thinking about trying one this year on some predator traps and I was wanting to hear some people's advice with them. Thanks Frankie

Skip the dye and just wax.

Well most of my predator traps are going to be dyed and waxed, but I wanted to try something else as well.

I never thought I would say this but. I spray painted mine last year and In my opinion it's faster cheaper and just as good as any other type of dip.

Some do. I dont. With wax you have to strip the wax of before redippong.
The reason Slim and Rusty use it. They dont nead to hull alot of extra clean traps. Just bring in the durty traps, rince and redip. You can use them the next day.

I don't use F1 but when I did try It out I got a lot of rusting under the coating and I have heard the same from others. Maybe I did something wrong but It was a problem. Now It's either a powder coated trap or a waxed trap on my canine line. I dip all my rat and mink and coon foot holds and BGs In latex paint. It's very cheap and it doesn't cost $19.00 a quart or $60.00 a gallon.. You know how many quarts of trap dip It takes to get enough dip to fill a bucket to get the depth needed to dip a few traps? Well I use a gallon of latex paint and add 2 gallons of water to the paint and 3 gallons of dip seem to fit the bill In a 5 gallon bucket. So do the math.
And I took some advice from ADC about spray painting my cables. I fought the idea for a few years but I finally broke down and did It. Well It worked great and I would never ever spend all that money to dip my cables In some type of commercial dip. Sorry Newt but I'm just telling It like I see It.

Formula 1 is a much more durable if properly applied. I used them side by side on probably the toughest test you can put them through, DP traps for raccoons. Both will hold up in the fur shed and both will color your traps for a camo look but the F1 lasted much longer in my on the line testing. $.02
~ADC~ ADC, what did you find was the proper application for Formula 1? I like 3-4 thin coats on newly dipped traps (I allow 30min. with a fan on them between coats.) and just a couple on ones that may need touched up from use. This is 4 coats on new traps... IAnd I took some advice from ADC about spray painting my cables. I fought the idea for a few years but I finally broke down and did It. That's because you're a small time snareman beav, in that you don't use enough of them at a time, same as me these days! I used to use alot more per year though when I started with the Formula 1. If you were treating 1000+ at a time then the dip is not only more durable but cheaper. If you keep and reuse the dip it may be cheaper anyway.

It might be my imagination but It looks like rust has formed under the coating. Or were they a bit rusted to begin with?

There's zero rust under the F1 on those new MB750's, just the color of the dip mixed with the color of the steel. It's WAY harder finish than paint.

Well It has to be latex based If you can thin It with water. A very knowledgeable river trapper told me you could by the same stuff from Memphis Net and Twine. They sell 2 different kinds of what they call Net Dip. One Is latex based and the other petroleum based. My buddy was a Fisheries Biologist and they would dip their nets In the latex based dip to protect their nets. He said It was pretty much the same as F1. There may be different additives In F1 but If It dilutes with water It has a latex base.
