Well It has to be latex based If you can thin It with water. A very knowledgeable river trapper told me you could by the same stuff from Memphis Net and Twine. They sell 2 different kinds of what they call Net Dip. One Is latex based and the other petroleum based. My buddy was a Fisheries Biologist and they would dip their nets In the latex based dip to protect their nets. He said It was pretty much the same as F1. There may be different additives In F1 but If It dilutes with water It has a latex base. Not necessarily Beav. Some water based dips are acrylic floor finishes and they can be tough.I don't know what formula 1 is but I know some really good coyote trappers that use it and swear by it.That is good enough for me.It is always a good idea not to get too opinionated about things you have no experience with.

So, do you prefer the traps that you dip slightly rusted or just degreased?

So, do you prefer the traps that you dip slightly rusted or just degreased? No need to have any rust on them IMO. The F1 holds up just fine so long as they are clean of grease/oils. Slightly rusted are fine too if it just a little surface rust. If its flaking or scaling off of course it needs cleaned up before most any treatment. The multiple thin coats are the trick if there is one. The first dip looks like it almost did nothing, but by the third dip you have a good solid coating once completely dry. Most folks have enough traps that by the time you have dipped once through all them, its been about long enough to go for the second coat. (like I mentioned ~30min. between coats with a fan on them or outside in the wind for that matter.) There are several trap treatments and just as many opinions,,,, my opinion F1 is the best dip for traps and can not be beat on snares. PLUS you're supporting Newt who I consider a friend and who helps everyone here with a big ol'heart. ~ADC~

Taximan I was one of the first trappers to actually test F1 so I do have some knowledge of the product. After using It I went back to dye and wax. Then I skipped the dye since I didn't think It helped any. Then I went to powder coating my traps. It's more durable then any thing on the market.

2 to 1 or 3 to 1 ratio of water to dip? I like it almost 3:1, I don't know what the directions say.

I tried a lot of different dips. I like Formula One the best out of the stuff that’s available.
I do like to wax mink traps for the speed and light tension...but for canines I like the ease and consistency of F1.
I catch 30-40 skunks a year on the canine line and it seems the F1 doesn’t hold the skunk odor as bad as other things I’ve tried.

Nice work coon duke! Question tho, does Formula 1 protect the trap from caustic type antifreeze? Like salt and calcium chloride..
Common sense catches alot of fur.. Pay homage to all you harvest..

Nice work coon duke! Question tho, does Formula 1 protect the trap from caustic type antifreeze? Like salt and calcium chloride.. All of the trap treatment methods will help against corrosion somewhat. Problem is when you make a catch often some of that protection is gone. I bed in peat so any of the corrosive antifreezes don’t come in direct contact with the trap.

I never thought I would say this but. I spray painted mine last year and In my opinion it's faster cheaper and just as good as any other type of dip. Holy crap where you get your spray paint?! I’d go broke spray painting 350+ coyote traps!

I tried F1 on traps and snares, once.
Never again.
Can’t speak on dakotalines dip.
Dye and wax on land traps, speed dip water traps, paint dip snares these days as spray paint was getting to expensive.

I'm thinkin' I'll stick with walnut boil then wax. Dipping snares last year with Dakota line dip was okay but I had to clean some off to get the locks to work smooth. Prolly should have added more water. I'm gonna boil my CRs also this year in walnut to cut costs. Walnuts are free.
