Hey guys, I looked in the archives and didn't see what I was looking for. This will be my 2nd year trapping this fall. What are you using to strip the wax on your traps? I have read that lye works, but I can't get that at the local hardware store here. Anything else work well? I can order off amazon also I guess. Thanks!

you can boil water while your traps are in there and the wax should come off where you can scrap it all off the water then, if theres still some left on some traps you can always spray them with a hose right after and it will blow off the warm wax

I really like a product called Wax Be Gone. Works well and I do not believe it is any were near as dangerous as lye. Most supplies places sell it.

That's what I do. There's still a slight film of wax on my traps even after boiling for a couple hours but that don't hurt anything.

50% White distilled vinegar / water solution....Soak for a couple days, and it will take it down to the metal.

Remove traps and rinse well, then submerge in a baking soda/water solution to neutralize any remaining acid left on the traps from the vinegar.

Rinse traps well again.

The traps will rust fast afterward, so either wax, paint, etc. as soon as dry, or let rust lightly and dye.

Vinegar makes them look like you just took them out of the box, minus the oil, lol.

The vinegar water mix works. Do not make the mistake if getting too much going on at once and end up forgetting two or three batches of coyote traps soaking while you are working on other projects.
Trust me, very bad decision.
