I do know some of us paint them so they blend in better to hide them from trap thieves but was wondering if anyone here has tried painting their DP's different colors to see if the raccoons where more attracted or not. Dunlap's Fire Fly Lure glows in the dark and thought about painting a few of my DP's fluorescent to see if it helped any. Opinions?

I just set a white marshmallow or golf ball on top. I figure that provides a lot of color contrast to the surroundings in the fall.

I have white and brown Z traps and ive found no difference in the catch rate. Like Beav said, just set on location with a good bait or lure that will catch there nose and that'll be way better then painting traps a different color that will get rubbed off after the first catch like minkless stated.

I painted 1 fluorescent green of a dozen I ordered last year. I didn't notice any difference in catch rates between brown or green

I paint mine white to make them easier for me to see, but the.first coon to get caught scrapes them down to bare metal. Same thing with the original brown powder coating that comes on Duke dps. It's mostly gone after the first one, especially if it's set somewhere rough like a sand bar on a creek.

I have white, brown, rustic looking ones, and yellow no differences in catch rate here personally. Sadly i feel like it will be difficult to tell if its the paint color or the locations you put the traps in as if you only put your white dps (for example) on the good spots the catch rates will be higher than putting the other colors in less productive spots.

Yes, very well aware of that. Would have to mix one or two of each, use the same bait etc. and take good notes. Apples to apples. Might see about the glow in the dark paint like Author suggested.

If coon needed glow in the dark to find food they would be extinct by now.

Set your DPs right where the coon has to step and your success will sky rocket. If your not on location your not going to draw many coon to your sets no matter what bait you use or what color your trap Is.
Look for coon toilets and gang set those spots. Find a coon trail and set the trap right In the trail.

I did an experiment and painted them pink, bright green, orange, yellow, and of course white. Made no difference. The only nice thing about paint is that if you have a trapping partner, my daughter, we could always tell hers (PInk) from mine.

Thank you Brian, that was the answer I was looking for. I am fully aware of location and trap placement, was only wondering if anyone here had noticed an increase of catches with an bright color.

Is nobody going to acknowledge the fact that blue DP's out produce 2:1 other colors. Especially if you put a small LOWE's symbol on the side of them. Lol. Just joking Old T-MAN joke.

That’s the first thing I thought when I read this! Blue, of course!
