I bought Berkshire heavy duty earth anchors and I’m wondering if they will hold a yote. We have rocky ground that’s why I bought heavy duty

Trapping is what built North America, why take that away?

People really should ask these questions before buying. While they will hold great they are terrible if you have to hammer them in. If the ground is soft enough to push them in you'll be fine and if you can get them in lightly tapping them you may be ok too. If you hammer on them with any real force you'll just bend the tip out flat and the driver will go in right past them.

Yep. Save those for the creek bank. I also posted about the cable stake question that was on the other thread

Get MB super stakes or Wolf Fangs. Those Berkshires bend pretty easy.

If you can drive them all the way, they will probably hold fine.
Don’t forget that you may need to hammer a pilot hole before driving into hard dirt.
Have you tried one yet to test if you can pull it out?

A friend tried those out a few years ago and broke or bent most of the tips . If you want to use earth anchors super stakes, finned super stakes or wolf fangs are the only way to go. I use the wolf fangs because half my trapping area is sandy soil and they have more surface area but if I had all solid or slightly rocky soil I would only use super stakes because they hold well and are easier to drive into the ground frozen for not. That being said if you can get them into the ground they will hold . IMO they are the worst design of all the earth anchors on the market, sorry.

Most folks do not read the Nick Wyshinski book teaching how to drill a small hole in the tips to improve their driving and performance.

I don’t have to drill a hole in the wolf fangs . Berks just are not made heavy enough in most soils as far as I’m concerned !

I had okay luck with them and I am in Eastern KY. ADC is absolutely correct though, you'll hit spots in the ground that your driver will bend the tip and not sink the anchor and they are pretty much single use.

I bought them because they were cheap and I’m on a pretty tight budget when it comes to trapping can’t afford super stakes at $30.00/doz

I only use wolf fangs with chain. I deal with rocky soil often and always drive a pilot hole first using a separate stake. It sometimes takes several attempts to find a spot that will "take" but it'll significantly reduce the amount of swearing you do in the field...and while driving home. I've never lost an animal with wolf fangs. Just the anchors themselves are around $6 a dozen or $45 per 100.

This year I'm gonna use 3" pieces of 1/2" pipe with an eye on them. Attached to 15" of cable, and chain after that, made my own driver.
