What size are your pan covers & what are they made of? FYI, you can make 1500 5.5" x 5.75" pan covers out of twenty 33 gallon trash bags for $7! Reusable (sometimes) and waterproof!

I cut about 200+ today in an 1.5 - 2 hours. I usually make 500+ up for each season, to make sure I have plenty, and so that I can hand some more out to those who might need them!

very smart those should work just as well for most people and you can do it while you are just watching tv or doing something else!

I personally use fiberglass pads under the pan but when I used pan covers,I wanted something breathable.Things can sweat or have condensation under the pan cover etc.Something like steel screen can breath,let moisture in and out and he let things air out etc.However,60 years ago,when I was new,I used plastic garbage bag material.Ugggggh.You can get away with a lot of things but it wouldn't be my choice.

I figured that black landscaping cloth would work. Maybe not.

I have a large roll of it, might have to try some.

I never actually tried It In the field. But I did cut some and tried It In the shop.
I like to drag my pan cover across the dog notch creating a hole so the dog can inserted. By doing this the dog and the notch holds down the cover and also keeps It from sliding. Then when the trap Is set the dogged jaw holds down the pan cover. Then you can pull the lose jaw side and place it under that loose jaw. When adding dirt to bed the trap, that extra cover material Is held In place with dirt. It works to perfection Or at last It did In the shop.

Still on my first roll as I usually can find the old cover. I used wax paper before and peat moss and plan on trying some screen this year but still seem to like the landscaping cloth better so far. I cut some screen and placed it in some plastic bags but can see the screen can poke holes in the bags. They can also become a tangled mess when trying to get them out. But since they are heavier they don't blow around if you dropped one.

Are you cutting it in a square or the outline of the traps?

if you use polyfil (pillow stuffing from the sewing section) from walmart UNDER the pan, no pan cover needed.
OR
you can cut a roll of wax paper in thirds, pack 1 roll (actually 1/3) at a time and peel off the amount on site, tear a slit for the dog to come up thru and BAM your done with a pan cover.
make sure to crinkle it up in a ball just before use so its limber and quiet.

You want your pan cover to fit just Inside the jaws and have It long enough so It goes under the dogged jaw and under the loose jaw. Don't cut a continuous slit for the pan notch. Just a slight hole so the pan notch will show.

I’ve used the landscape fabric for years , the type that’s about as thick as a good denim shirt . But the last couple of years I’ve been using a modified version of Zaggers bedding method without any pan cover at all with good results .
