I made 400 pounds of waxed sand and put it in a plastic barrel (about the size of a large trash can). I can't move it, so it is staying outside. I took the lid off this morning and it is all in one big clump.
Question is- can I just break the clump up and use it or did I ruin it? Seems like it should still work..... but haven't tested it yet.
Thanks in advance.

You can bust it up should be fine. Since you got to bust it up now would be a good time to transfer it into a can in a cooler spot.

Thanks. I will be putting it into 5 gallon pails as I bust it up. I just made so much at once, the big pail was easier blush
Lesson learned!

Have fun , I did this with a tote full and it took quite a while to bust and sift it back to usable .
Good luck !

This is why I wait as long as I can to do any waxing of traps or fort. Too easy for the wax to remelt if you don't store it in a cool location.

Thanks for the reminder. I waxed some sand during the week—in my garage. It got close to 11 degrees there today. The sand and wax were in good shape but I moved it into my basement where it’s 65 or so and now I don’t have to worry.

Last week I waxed some sand, poured it onto a plywood sheet to cool and boxed it while it was a bit warm. I then had to break it up and reheat. Big waste of time. Mental note to self: It’s got to cool before boxing!!

I also use a sheet of plywood for cooling. Just keep stirring until cool and it will eliminate most of your problem. I use a tine rake for stirring. Also helps to set up a fan blowing on the mix, will cool faster. Just make sure the mix is cool before storing.

I use a paint mixer on an electric drill in a 5 gallon bucket. Keep mixing until it cools.

I wax my sand/dirt combo in the fall after gathering and drying in the summer. It usually doesn't get hot enough around here for the solar method to be effective -- I've tried. So I'm stuck using the oven which works great but takes forever. I spread out the waxed sand/dirt on plywood, letting it cool off enough to start breaking up clumps with gloved hands and spreading it around until it's fully cooled. It cools down pretty quickly, but you need to keep everything moving.
