Did the decline of the chestnut result in a decline of ginseng?

The American Chestnut and ginseng could have a synergetic relationship with each other....good thought. I know garlic mustard messes up the good bacteria in the forest soil.

I don't think there is any connection between the two.

The decline in ginseng is directly related to the increase in price AND the fact that a lot of diggers dig everything and don't take the time to plant the berries.
