Like John-Chagnon I use the MB550, anchor them well and they will serve you well for many, many years...

And traprjohn advice is probably the best, join a local Trapping Association. At about your age I had been floundering at best with trapping. I found out a cousin was a trapper. We were the same age, but his mother was going to take him to a County Trappers Association meeting and I was invited to tag along! The guys were great and without a doubt, they helped us shorten the learning curve by decades for sure!

Best of luck to you this upcoming season!

Starter Kits There is a number of options in there that are super set ups to start. You don't need the best or modified anything until you gain experience IMO. Nice, but not necessary. I remember watching Johnny Thorpe with unmodified traps saying that was almost entirely what he used.

Another reason to attend local trappers association meetings at the district level: those in the student age at ours walk out with new traps, tools, lures as we have door raffles and most of that stuff ends leaving with them it would seem. If you speak with those folks also there, you will get invited to spend a day with them on their, or your, line. Knowledge, tools, and experience are the three key components to improving your harvest and you get all three started in one morning!

Also, if looking to buy more MB's keep an eye on the Trap Shed section of this. A lot of good used traps show up for less than new price. If you don't have a PayPal account, you might want to get one.
