Person called about a beaver chewing on several spruce trees around his pond. Bark has been removed on about a foot of vertical trunk about 18 inches from the ground. Only a couple of barely noticeable tooth marks in actual wood and they look too narrow and sharp for a beaver. There are a couple of aspen chewed sticks in the pond but no beaver is living there. Has anyone seen where beaver stripped bark from spruce trees or could it be from a porcupine? We rarely see porks in our area.????

FWIW I'm thinking Porkies, but howzabout Marmot? Are bark chunks on the ground or gone? Deer rub? Sounds like game cam time.

Bark chunks gone. The stripping is about 18" above the ground on 6-8" diameter tree with dead branches low in enough to have to bend over or get on all 4s to get close. So not deer. Yes, I'm thinking porkie at this time.
