If you're in New York..... This doesn't make a lick of sense, but just a heads up on the regulations.

The only turtle species for which there is an open hunting season is the snapping turtle. You may not harvest, take, or possess any other turtle species at any time.
•A hunting license is required to take snapping turtles. The only legal implement for taking snapping turtles is a firearm or a bow.

From the DEC website as to legal means of harvesting them.

Ontario, which is usually known for the most part for science based decisions on wildlife management, has eliminated all harvest of turtles as a result of the campaigning by the turtle loving societies.

If you want traps from Jerry you better be getting them. He told me the other day when he runs out of material he'll be done making traps.

If you in the need for a D hoop trap I make and sale them for 60.00 Dave 318-465-5961

I would take that tie off end at the back and pull back forward and tie off to the center D-ring.
I use 1/2 inch Scheduled 40 spreader bars, as opposed to wood. Far lighter and wood absorbs water after time, which adds weight.
Stake down using a 5 foot piece of the same pipe, which keeps turtles from pulling a hoop net into deeper water and drowning.

Hey, if you're on face book by chance, check out a gals I know who catch a lot of turtles doing no more that that !
