Just picked up a property that has a concrete apron around the sides of the culvert. Where is the best location to set a BE set for mink?
1. Where the concrete meets the pipe (90 degree angle)? 2. The extreme end of the concrete where it shallows up and transitions to mud? 3. Something else?
Scouting today.
Thanks.

With mink it never hurts to set all of them. If the corners are shallow enough, platform sets with a #2 is great.

Don't even worry about the culvert go up stream and down stream and find that that sweet spot. Or with a bit of work you can create that perfect spot. And you can always gang set these areas. 6 B&E sets will out preform 1.

The one thing I found out about mink over all years of chasing them Is they like to pull out before the culvert and go over the road. Ever notice those very faint trails that go up the bank.

Thanks guys - the water at the culvert mouth is about 3' and with the wings it goes down to to the point at which you reach the shore. I did see sign - half eaten frogs, faint trails as Beav mentioned so they are definitely in the area.

Not sure if this pic will help, but the traps were set close to where the mink are pictured. (Three mink in pic)

Ive noticed those trails and got tired of catching squirrels, rabbits possums, etc. They arent mink trails for sure.....

If that trail leads across the road coming and going Into the water source I'm betting Its a mink trail.

Just saw a mink killed at one of my bridges yesterday and I guarantee thats what he was doing. Just seems everything else uses them here in the east. Cant say Ive ever found one that led from water, up over back into the water- they seem to follow the bank for a ways here. I still think you are OK to set the bridge walls underneath. I am a firm believer that the same mink dont go over all the time.

They don't always go over the road. That tripple catch in my posted pic shows that. They do go over the road sometimes, I've seen proof of that by tracks in the snow

fencing and blocking down area around body grips doesn't spook mink away either. Give them the easiest path right through your trap. Use sticks, weedstems, rocks, whatever is handy to fence em down to the narrow opening of a body gripper. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
