A little rat glands, asafoetida and sac oil would be a good if you want simple. If you want it more on the eatable side replace sac oil with sun rendered fish oil. Liver hasn't tested well for me by itself but with some good ingredients it can be made attractive.

For all the trouble on a few chicken livers I would wait until I got my hands on a deer liver, beef liver or port liver, the latter can be gotten real cheap from a slaughter house and those hooved animal livers are far more attractive to canines. Taint a bit before putting in the what ever you consider magic ingredients., As far as hearts I was never impressed on how they processed into baits or lures. With the chicken livers and hearts Id freeze or preserve fresh for weasel or mink trapping with no processing and add the you know majic weasel lure.

This is what I find interesting about coyotes, I've tested beef, deer and lamb liver in my area and I could get a little response on them but it was mild compared to other bases.

I will add I have had good success with liver and Jamison's bait solution but after some real testing im pretty sure it was mostly the bait solution doing the damage and the liver just being a filler

Yes Sir maybe local issue. But I always found animals found of liver and of coarse much better with other goodies added. Try giving pig liver a try

Thanks for sharing John. I'm starting to wonder how much difference there in regional preferences. I read were Ogorman said that horse doesn't work in his area but it gets lots of interest here. A lot of people swear by bobcat but here by itself in testing it doesn't hardly get any intrest.

Maybe some one educated the dogs with Liver in your area and Hoarse meat in Mr. Ogormans area. Both of those meats should trigger inate responses from the canines. Just like a piece of fish will get all kinds of response in the middle of a desert or across a continent were it is foreign species. Simple thing for trappers is try stuff to find what works and once it is over used prepare to switch to something else. From being years in the supply business I have seen many a successful trapper switch from one lure to another and back years latter.

I've used chicken hearts a bit, placing a good bait deep in a hole set, then adding a half dozen hearts or so on top of the bait.
Grey fox, when we had them, would try to steal the 'bait' and get only one heart at a time.
With small feet, they had an uncanny ability to miss a trap pan.
That meant they spent more time stomping around, which gave a better chance at putting the paws on the pan.
My problem is : I like chicken hearts, often eating them raw as a child.
