Around Labor Dad my dad and I go around to a few small Seng patches and break the tops off as long as no unripe berries are present. We do this to keep others from digging it. Always break off stems above ground to keep from damaging growth bud. I know most of it comes back year after year. But do any of you all do this or know if its actually bad for the Seng plants?

It doesn't hurt the plants-roots if you are doing it in early September. Deer eat the tops year round when the plants are up and getting eaten off early in the growing season will stunt the root growth that year but another top will come up the following year.
