Did some scouting for bobcat the other day and found this nice rocky ledge/outcrop. Could someone with more cat trapping experience than me give me some pointers on where to set traps and types of sets one would use on the rocky ledge? Also I didn't see any tracks or scat up on the rocky ledge but believe I seen some tracks in the area on the lower ground if those are in fact bobcat tracks? (see track pics) what do you guys think?

Like TrappedOut said, set it and see. I did that and got a nice female the first weekend I ever trapped. Good luck but be careful, if you catch something you’ll be hooked, lol.

Put out a camera or two. They can tell you a lot of what's going on. Neat looking place.

Do you think rub sets would be better on the rocky ledge or flat sets?

Why limit yourself to just one type of set? Make several of each and the cats will tell you which ones they prefer.

20 Scout is right but...

I have my fav things and catching cats on a rub set is one of them. My answer is that it doesnt matter.

IMO if you put a rub set up and somehow get a bobcat with in 5 ft he will get caught.

If I had rocks I would worry more about getting a post to stand up than whether or not it would work. It will work if u have cats.

I have not tried this but on a flat rock I bet you could put a wood box flat on the ground and catch a bobcat on a corner smeared with something that makes him want to rub his face on it.

Looks like you have some places there that could easily be choked down. If I was lucky enough to have that type of country I'd just make the pan the only place the cat could step. Forget the rest.

Thank u for chiming in with awesome advce Wade. Savell buries traps for a rub set which I think is always a walk thru but I threw away my sifter years ago. Dont get me wrong I still bury coyote traps but my cat set traps sit on bare earth, have over sized pans, and are the only place to step for 8 to 10 inches in any direction

I'm with you Leftlane, I still bury the sets for those smelly coyotes but for sure if I was going for bobcats which I do from time to time it's all exposed anymore. No worries of freezing which will help the OP being from Wisconsin. If he's already walked through there once he will again. Just tighten down the path.

Now you got me thinking smile
These rub sets you guys speak of, I'm thinking they.are pobably not too hard to create.? I'll try to formulate a plan.
Lots of good info on here, thanks.

I'll try to make a setup that they'll rub if I can't find one that they are already doing

Those are some cool rock outcroppings. I don't see many rock formations in Wisconsin.

I found some scat today that had a couple areas on the ground a few inches from the scat where it looked like something vomited. Is that something bobcats do?

[Linked Image]

The flat yellowish greasy looking stuff on the left side of the photo is hard to see in the picture.

I wonder if this is cat scat
