Wanting to make more dispatch poles for snares. I would much perfer fiberglass as it is lighter. So what if any are the advantages of rebar? It would primarily be used in grassy areas for coyotes.

Also wondering if any outlets sells those. I would rather just save the trouble of making and just buy some.

Rebar is much less flexible. That's a big advantage to get the snare set tight on their first lunge.

I think I understand your idea. If you carve a trigger system out of sticks and find a strong springy branch I bet it will work almost as good as a power snare. Once the snare is pulled by the animal the trigger goes and the branch yanks the snare shut on the animal, way harder than what the animal could do itself, the trick is finding the sapling or branch. Not the most efficient for long lining but its worth a try or 2 honestly.

Your snare doesn't have to be hooked up to your kill pole. Stabilize your snare like your doing now and then drive In your kill pole several feet away. Or just set In entanglement and forget the kill pole.

I like the idea of all in one shot. Anchor, stabilizer, and dispatch. Why I inquired about the fiberglass rods. Real light weight

Then just set In entanglement.
I look at It this way I want less visual things right at the set Itself. I don't see where driving a 4' re bar pole right at the set is making things less conspicuous. It may work In some cases and for some trappers but It's not something I would do. I have enough refusals at my CRs even when keeping things as natural as I can.

It seems to me If your so called kill pole was only 12" out of the ground It would serve the same purpose as one sticking 3' out of the ground.

All the animals I have snared that have entangled do it at what ever height their neck is at - foxes 6-7" off the ground, coyotes 10-12" off the ground. It helps if the entanglement is away from the spot the snare is anchored so they hit fast and wrap up quick. I never use kill poles - plenty of stuff growing here to get the job done.

We use nothing but CRs and can't set In any type of entanglement. I have had coyotes jack a re bar stake 4 or 5 inches out of the ground and get wrapped up tight to that stake.
