Saddles are new to me Someone please educate me. Do you still climb a ladder to get elevated then attach the saddle to the trunk of tree? Climbing sticks. Saddles are mostly used by mobile hunters. They've really started getting popular the last couple of years. The market is growing for the product. ... here’s a pic of climbing sticks... but Y’all will never catch me hanging from a tree with a rope connected to a diaper lol

Lots of good advice given here. Just remember that no stand or safety harness is foolproof. You just have to be smart about it.
I had a treestand accident about 20 years ago. After the initial "shock" I found myself suspended upside down with my feet pinned between the seat and the foot climber of a tree lounge. I was by myself and nobody expected me back home until that evening (this happened about 0500). Not a good situation to find yourself in. It took everything I had to do one inverted sit-up so I could free my feet and get myself back down. Thankfully, other than feeling like someone had hit me across the back with a piece of rebar where I "crashed" through the bottom rung/foot rest I was okay. God was certainly looking after me that day. I never figured out exactly what I did wrong that caused the seat to slip like it did.
I sold that tree lounge shortly after that and tried a ladder stand. They're too stinkin heavy to carry in and out of public land. I've been thinking about one of the millennium aluminum hang on stands, I need something quick and easy to set up, pack in and out.

I use ladder stands but NEVER use all the sections. 12 ft is High enough . Life line is best thing ever invented . Tied to the tree before you get off the ground. Easy to make just google it . To each their own. I don’t use ladder stands because I can’t find one that comes with enough sections. I like my feet to be at least 20’. Some of my stand are closer to 35’. I use both stands and my saddle, each hunt is different and calls for different gear. Either way I’m strapped to the tree before I step off the ground

Still got the little Baker mom bought for dad back in 70 sumthin. He refused to use it. I loved it. Had them 2 bungee chord loops to put your toes under. Was a bugger to get them mickeys out ... then back in at altitude. Bear hug the tree and inch-worm your way up. Coming down was where you really had to pa attention. My younger brother wanted to try it. Only tree nearby was a telephone pole that had been clumb with spikes many times. Bro went up OK, but fudged it coming down. Short pants and all. Was pullin creosote splinters for a week .... or more. He never used it again ...... it was all mine from there on out. Heavy for its size, but I like it. The two tether method of climbing is about the same but a bit less risk of becoming a pin cushion

With hunting season here, some might want to review this thread Apparently the sissyfied nation has penetrated the redneck nation. Use what ya got and get ya a deer.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I wear a safety harness for my climber and have the lifeline ropes on my lock-ons. All my double stands are only about 12-15ft and have rails. I think you’d have to really try hard to fall out of one, like jump or something. It's generally the climbing part where most accidents happen.

I have a friend who also walked off his stand but he was 20' up. Broke his neck and was off work for six months. Lucky to be alive. He did it when he was 27 and will be in pain for the rest of his life. Be careful up there.

It's generally the climbing part where most accidents happen. I never heard, or realized that .... if its true. I always assumed most dozed off, and subsequently sub/un consciously dove off.

Switch to saddles. Nothing is ever 100% but with those your always connected to the tree at all times from th g kind to at height. And go wee wee on your boots. Lol.
