How do you prefer your triggers in boxes? Wire trigger on top or bottom or pan?

A pan trigger trap recessed and set close to the bait at back of the box.

Further to my previous post, with the trap recessed 4-5 inches in front of the bait the fisher is stable at the bait with its head through the the jaws and triggers the trap by pushing down on the pan while working the bait. This results in a neck strike at the base of skull providing a quick humane dispatch.

14 inches but longer is OK. The key to the neck catch is the close placement of the trap to the bait.

I like the Noonan wire cage, the wire trigger is on the top or the side of the cage away from the tree. I'm a newbie to Fisher trapping, but I feel the Fisher is a pretty bold critter so the position of the trigger probably doesn't matter. Some do say there is a less chance of trigger poking a hole in the back area with a bottom set trigger???

Was looking for ideas of how some guys set as I make some boxes and want them to serve double duty for mink and fisher. Thinking the pan may be the best way to go.

The problem I see with the wire cage or vertical box strapped to a tree stem is getting a trapped fisher or marten hanging out away from the tree far enough to avoid squirrel/mice and voles damaging the fur.

10/4 that's the way I did it. The same 120 box set up, as shown in my previous post, for marten, mink and fisher.

We have 24hr check by law, so never had damage from squirrel, mice or voles... so far. Also the animal cannot be fully suspended in the air.

For the pan users, do you like the Barkers? Wood? Savageau?

Does for the pan use political road signs?

Wood or corrugated plastic (political) for me. Staple wood onto trigger wires and with plastic slide the wires through corrugation slots.

The wider one spreads the triggers wires before inserting them into pan the more stable/responsive the pan will be(not wobbly), especially if you have four way triggers. I spread mine at least 3-4" apart.

I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

Pans for mink, marten, and weasels for me. Fisher fills 110 and 155s up, as do raccoons, the least in their face the better probably. Raccoon trail set is about the only time I use the dog on top, 1” trigger wires bent over in half circles.

As stated, fisher usually go head first into the brush with little regard if there is a reason to go in. In a trail they go over the top unless brushed in.

You should make a brush tent 6-8” out for raccoon trailsets with 155s too.
