Distance deer was from shooter and velocity of the round would help. Mine looked about the same as his did. My deer was 30 yard and I didn't get a pass through stuck in shoulder in opposite side. I will have to look up the velocity. Now the deer didn't go 10 yard and fell over and the internals were destroyed. It dumped all its energy in to the deer but i also would have liked to see more expansion.

Distance deer was from shooter and velocity of the round would help. Distance was almost identical 40-50 yards. I don't know on the velocity. I had the same poor expansion with SST slugs though. Switched to Remington Accutips for way better results.

The expansion on the Sig Sauer ammo is amazing.I might have to try some of that. It has good accuracy for us as well.

Jayme, I cast and load 265 gr. WFN bullets for my .44's. They run 1250 in a 6" pistol and @1450 in carbines (Marlin 1894 .44 mag. pictured with my grandson last season). His Dad shot his first couple deer with the same rifle and at least 12 deer to the rifle/ammo combination. All complete pass thru, @ 30 yards longest tracking. I gave up on jacketed bullets in pistol cartridges a long time ago. The Wide Flat Nose bullets kill way better than most people suspect. Here is the mould, made by NOE #432-265-RF rg4. These type moulds will cast flat point, dimple point, or hollow point bullets, just by changing the nose pins. My rifles seem to have a preference for the dimple points.

Thanks! I just ordered a .44 barrel for a T/C Encore for the kids to shoot. I was wondering what to shoot. The Sig Sauer would be worth trying at least IMO to see how they shoot for ya. I never found any that were tack drivers but plenty tight groups for deer.

I will not shoot them in my 45/70 anymore. Shot a buck twice last year and they failed to drop him. 60 yards broadside. Immediately after that I shot a doe in same spot and she ran several hundred yards. I always shoot them through the front shoulders to make sure they don't run. Doe had a exit hole about the size of my thumb.
Old enough to know better, but dumb enough to still try.

I shoot LEVERevolutions in 35 Rem. Shot deer from 25 to 160 yds. Always blown straight through with a large exit hole. I shoot the same ammo in a Marlin 336. Other than re sighting due to higher velocity I am pleased with its performance.

I’ve shot a pile of deer with my .44 Blackhawk with leverlutions, and they always punched big holes and killed em dead. I’ve since switch to barnes in everything from my .460 to 45-70, to 7mm. Seem to have a little more reliable expansion.
