I have been saving glands from the fox I have caught since I started trapping. (2014) I have between 2 and 6 ounces depending on how many I caught that year. All I have added to them was a little urine collected from those fox. What do I do with glands that are anywhere from 1-6 years old? Use them as lure as is? Add something to them? Any input is appreciated!

In my basement, it stays pretty cool down there. The oldest couple smell so foxy it’s almost like skunk

Well I have done similar except mine had been exposed to variable outside temps. I do not know how much of a difference that makes. I have used used vents and reproductive parts covered completely in urine and let it sit in covered but not sealed jars. Some are a decade old. earliest I have used some is one year after putting it in jars. All of it caught all of the Michigan fur bearers that would be expected out in hay fields including canines. Never added anything to it. Have not noticed a difference in catch in the older stuff vs the one year old. I can not remember if the stuff froze in winter. Hope my input helped. I believe you have a decent land lure as is. Let us know what you come up with.

My experience is glands by themselves provide good attraction but their attractiveness and the intensity of the target animal’s reaction can be increased by addition of some secondary odors

Mix 1/2 oz glycerine to each 4 oz after they are broke down to the consistency you want and go catch some more foxes.

seems like everyone has a different idea of which glands to use. that will have a big effect o n your lures attractiveness.

I use the O rings, rotted some down for a couple years, mixed in some mink and rat glands with just a little castor, catches critters just as good as any other lure I’ve tried.
