chasing eyes you missed out on some good grub last night! But a man gotta make the money, I totally get that! It was good seeing so many people there though especially the youngsters smile Even got to give bronco and my buddy Laramy a hard time smile

Pushing my run out a day. My buddy ran his line yesterday, broke his hitch on his pull behind and cut smoking hot wolverine sign without any gear. He has been chasing that dang thing for 2 years now so of course he wants to get back out there and get it set smile

bearcat2 this is the wench he picked up. Operates using a cordless drill.

I wonder how strong that is?
I seen a winch attachment for a chinsaw-it looked strong the guy was using it to skid big logs.

Boco I believe the one he got is rated for 750lbs. Hopefully we wont have to use it tomorrow, but if we do I will give some feedback.

I don't know, I have an atv winch on a receiver hitch, and quick connect wires on it so I carry it in my box and just put it on front or rear when I need it and plug the wires into the quick connect that I run from the battery and have come out under my windshield. Haven't got the receiver mounted on the front yet, but I have a foot long loop of cable I can loop around the front bumper if I need to. Mine is a 3500 lb Harbor Freight model, which is overkill, but I like that model better than the smaller one (small one has a cordless remote that takes a watch battery and I always figured I'd either lose or the battery would die when I needed it) and I've ran that model on a snowmachine and a fourwheeler for years without an issue on either one.

Might have to shovel a ramp to help that little winch out, but as long as the batteries hold up it should help a guy quite a bit.

Boco,,
those chainsaw winches are strong if they are geared right, I've seen guys winch pickups out with them. And the batteries won't die on them either. Heavy and bulky though.

Well my buddy Laramy showed up as planned and we were able to knock out 17 miles of trail, about half of my line.
Pretty impressed with his Skandic 24 inch super wide, that joker didnt skip a beat and he only got stuck once and that was my fault. Told him to by pass some trees across the trail and well there were those little trees that like to catch the skies on the other side.
I on the other hand got stuck a bunch of times. Not use to driving those tanks smile Pretty easy getting out, Laramy would back up, hook up the strap, pop and we were on our way.

On a positive we only had to use the shovel once and that was as we were headed out, right at the highway.

We used that winch twice after I slid off the trail and sunk the sled. Laramy was pretty impressed with it and state numerous times that it beat a hand come along tenfold.

Here is Laramy mean mugging me after getting stuck smile

[Linked Image]

It dont look stuck but it is sunk up past the running boards smile

[Linked Image]

He is going to come back down early next week and we are going to get the rest of the line open. Plan on letting the trail set up and go dig gear out on Saturday.

Saw a few kitty track and even some yote tracks. We checked 2 sets and both were buried under 2 ft snow, but they both had kitty track near them go figure smile

Then I came home and read this.........................

Weather Alerts-Wasilla, AK
Blizzard Warning
From Thu 8 pm until Fri 8 pm AKST

At least it is just high winds blowing the snow around.

Appreciate you Laramy for coming out and busting trail!

Be safe out there guys!

Good to see you all breaking your trail back out. Hope this windstorm doesn't mess all that hard work up. The wide tracks and SWT's take a different approach when it comes to riding them. Well sometimes they just have a mind of their own and you are along for the ride. LOL.

Thanks bfisch smile

I got schooled the other day by a lynx that hit three different sets, 2 he pushed in on the sides of the cubby got a wiff of what he wanted and move on, the other set he walked in but just angled away. I think that might have been the one I pinched earlier in the season. Talking to Ted he suggests putting in a few pee posts at those sets so if they dont hit the bait they at least try to mark the area. Gonna make that happen tomorrow.

Spent the past few days digging gear out and today my buddy Laramy ran with me and help break the last 17 miles of line and get that gear up and running. Managed to pick up a marten, it chowed down on a duck at a lynx cubby and created a marten cave smile Once he finished that off moved over to the marten set 10 ft away an tried for the beaver smile

[Linked Image]

Alot of critters got free meals on that last section. Missed a lynx a marten an a few fox and yotes due to traps and snare being under freaking 2 ft of snow. Fuels the fire for the next run out there smile

Be safe out there guys!

Ran some bait out today. The moose calves are getting hammered down here pretty good. Picked one up the other day and sure enough F/G
called this morning and had 2 more, they were looking for trappers to go get them.

Did a few change ups on my lynx sets. Hung a few snares around them, made 2 walk through sets with a strip of moose hide and beaver castor, and made a trash set. Got the idea for the hide and beaver castor after reading through the achieves from Gator Jr. Also decided to try tissue paper over the trap. We will see how that all pans out. I have a lynx that I probably pinched earlier this season that just dont want to play by the rules smile

Still freaking pretty warm here 36 today but it is suppose to drop back down to the mid 20's and teens which is a good thing smile Cut some fox and yote track but of course no where near any of my gear.

Did get a little bait robber smile Prior to the dumps of snow I had a marten robbing the bait so tossed a 120 out there for him in hopes that he returns.

Be safe out there guys!

HFT i hate tissue paper it just gets wet and freezes I discovered the deli papers that they use to wrap a sandwich in work awesome for the big footholds one uses for both lynx, wolverine and wolves I currently am working my way through some of these they work really well in our freeze thaw conditions we get in SW i put one under and one over the trap

https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Stix-Deli-Paper-10-500ct/dp/B071G113V2/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=2I4OA1GLGVW3X&keywords=deli+paper+sheets&qid=1672945770&sprefix=deli+paper%2Caps%2C253&sr=8-4

otterman I like that deli paper idea. Have to give it a try.

John sounds like you have your bases covered for that tricky lynx. Bet you get it soon.
