If you had to choose the best canoe for water trapping what would it be?
I'm currently in the market as the one I have is just to bully for me.
Typically I'm by myself, however everyone once in a while someone tags along. I mainly traps marsh and rivers. I amno fan of a tippy canoe.
I do prefer a square stern so when I'm done setting, I can easily fire up the 3 hp motor and scoot back to the truck without wasting time paddling the long distance back.
Thanks for your input

Golden Hawk 12'9" square stern 750 lbs of carrying capacity and you can go up to 4hsp The canoe will weigh about 65lbs I saw a post like this and had to build this set-up. It was a great idea. The motor was a long tail and I think it was a 4hp. The canoe has an upswept bottom. You NEED to be careful when beaching it. I found the motor too small to push through much, but the weight added easily made an empty boat EASY to flip...2-3 times. I spent a fair amount of time in small boats, but I think this canoe is best WITHOUT the longtail motor. Maybe a trolling motor with the battery in the bow. I parted out the motor and the canoe and sold both. I use a pirogue now, and stay drier when trapping beaver and otter.

Sportspal look for a 16 footer, almost unflippable and very stable

Depends on the water. Ditch, pond, creek, river or lake? Ditch and pond hopping a lightweight sportspal is great for throwin in and out of a truck or 4 wheeler. River or lake you would need a bigger canoe, square stern, with a motor-even a freighter on big water. For medium sized creeks something in between would be best.

I have been looking for the lightest canoe possible which I guess is the Wee Lassie which is 10'6" long and weighs 16 lbs. I am in my 60sand want something light that I can throw in the back of my truck. Not sure if it would be the best trapping canoe but it should work great for fishing in small ponds and brooks https://wenonah.com/Canoes.aspx?id=152Does anyone own or have used one? Thoughts? Likes? Dislikes?
