Has anyone ever used landscaping cloth for pan covers. What was your experience?

Nope. Used waxed paper and coffee filters. Tried Black screen wire from Ogorman's once. But I work with the = Black landscaping cloth in the late 80's > I worked landscaping to start with in high school then went to brick masonery. It would be OK for keeping dirt from under the pan, but i would think it would absorb water

Second year using it and feel it's alright. Used wax paper for years and going to try screen on a few sets this year for comparison.

I’ve seen it used on Ed Schneider’s youtube videos. I think they use the “high year” heavy stuff. They have been using it for quite a while so it must be working for them. I have not used it myself.

I used it for a couple of years. It worked ok, but I had trouble with packets digging it up. Because of the packrats, I can't use sheep's wool done the hole either. I now use pipe wrap insulation under the pan along with waxed sand. This combo works very good for me.

The packrats should leave the pipe wrap insulation alone.At least they do here,along with everything else.

I’ve been using the landscape fabric for several years now and it seems to work as well or better than anything else I’ve tried. It does not hold moisture, in fact it is made to let moisture pass through. I use the type that is about the same thickness as a good denim shirt or an old pair of jeans. I’ve gotten many uses out of a single pan cover and have even used the same ones over a few years. The only problem is that they blow away pretty easy after a catch in open terrain.

Has anyone used them in sandy soil?

Yep, the packrats leave the pipe wrap alone.

All I have is sandy soil. The sand was not an issue, packrats were.

Personally, I prefer the fiberglass pan covers from mtp. At under $4 for 24 of them I can buy a pack and be money ahead when I figure in my time cutting up some kind of material. Unless you’re running a crap ton of traps $20 will buy all the covers you need and then some for a season.

I never cared for those slotted pan covers.

I always drag my pan cover whether It's screen or some type of fabric across the dog notch. That creates a small hole so you can place the dog In the notch and at the same time holding down the pan cover. Then the tag end of the cover Is held under the dogged jaw. And the the other end of the cover goes under the loose jaw. I find this system gives you the best results when using pan covers.

I tried it for a bit, it collapses around the pan but I used the thin stuff. Sure wish it came in white. Now I used aluminum carbon coated from Rural King for 550s or polly under the pan, and steel from Keg creek for #3s.

I use 100 - 150 pan covers per season, I so kinda need a lot!

Well then you might have to spend $30. Still beats cutting your own, at least in my opinion.
