Anybody running nail jhooks in these? How’s it working for you?
I make a few nail swivels and figured this combo would be easier.

Small washers in bulk lots are cheap. I would think they would cover any irregularity in nail head surfaces.

Yep Furvor, I use 30d nails and a 3/16 stainless washer on my nail swivels. Super easy spinning. If I get time I’ll make one up tomorrow.

Yep I use the rod swivels on all my land traps with 30 D nail J hooks. I bend them with long necks with a Custer B2B bender. They self clean this way, every time they nock the slack out of the chain. The most important/functional swivel is attached to the D ring!

Rob I use both nail swivel and rod swivel with a 30 nail j hooks no washer seem to work fine for me. Reason I am going that way on traps is because I can use 30nail or heavy duty j hook .
Crunch proof swivels 30 hooks are a bit tougher to make fit.

I also been putting a longer neck j hook at the base of the trap to help get swivel out from under the trap.

These are 30d nails with #10 stainless washers. If using a 20d nail a metric washer works best. Can’t remember the size.

Just curious; why wouldn't you just use a HD j-hook? Cost, or do you guys think the nails swivel more freely or clean out better? I just run a j-hook through my rod swivels.

@Farmdog - The nail swivel has a longer neck on it, allowing for better cleanout. I have seen too many times grass wadding up around the standard j-hook.

Only one question, Rob. Why do you put a swivel on the end of the chain? That is the first to foul, and just a waste of a good swivel, IMHO!

Hmm good point Lee. I use 1/4” quick links and they book right through a swivel nice and quick. Just stuck in my ways I guess.

Make all my own j hooks, swivels, base plates etc.

All out of 20 penny nails.

Boys you’ve got two top notch trap modifiers on this post and IF Rodney Jordan jumped in there’d be three...Ryan, Rob(yoteguts) and Rodney just know how to weld.
