To me it’s a matter of time. The time and gas used pre baiting is substantial. However you could definitely harvest them faster come season. I too appreciate someone with the strange addiction us trappers have. Go get em!

Another reason to prebait is to get a sense of what crop changes do to last year’s hot trails, when the crop was corn. Every other year, the crops change from corn to grass or soybeans. This changes the trail traffic enough that if I don’t have permission on the adjoining corn ground, I may be wasting time.

Most barbecue sauces contain molasses. Molasses attracts deer. DNR rules say in several southern Minnesota counties, where chronic wasting disease has been found, they don’t want deer to congregate around an artificial (pre) bait. A corn field is ok. A sportsman placed corn bait is not.
