Something I've been thinking about for several years. We use flagging for bobcats, some use extensive dirt holes for cannines, we use bark peeled sticks for beaver. I have even used pvc pipe to put on thru the ice beaver sets. This brought up a couple of situations I've ran into over the years.
I found this location where beaver was coming out of the water, to cut popular trees, almost every day there was fresh tracks and mud where they came out, my friend who was trapping set a 330, and in the process, broke off two limbs close to the run using them for cross sticks, that run became dead, for almost 3 weeks.

Another time during the winter we saw where otter had been using a crossover, we set up that area, we then noticed the otter was going around the set, so we set it up, again the otter(s) were going around each set location.

This my belief: Because the beaver and otter eyes are so close to the water, they see things that we normally don't believe they would see, when they're area is disturbed. Am I right in this belief, or am I all wet?

Beaver and otter can see and sense the Radiating magnetic field of the trap if it is above the induction of the earth magnetic field. In a situation like that you need to make sure all of your traps are underwater When set.

Thats why I don't like using sticks to stabilize or to build forts for beaver. anything that sticks out to you will stick out to them. And fur thieves. That's why I like short h stands in shallow runs and blending sets in as much as possible.
