I do have a mole in my garden and I'm going to have some fun trapping this weekend. All these traps are in good working condition with strong springs, I want to see what works best...

From left to right,

1. Avalu Mole Trap. Probably pre 1900

2. Wherry Mole Trap. This is the "improved" version patented in 1895, not the 1888 original model.

3. Olmstead Mole Trap. Patented 1886. (lower right in picture)

4. Excelsior Gopher Trap(but looks more like a mole trap to me) Patented in 1886 and manufactured in San Francisco!

If the soil is loose and tilled to some degree the soil will be prone to collapse as you work the area. Some of those traps need to be anchored well enough to work properly.

So I would dig out a small section of a good run take a piece of pvc pipe the diameter of the mole run and pack the soil down on it to firm it up. Put 2 Albano mole traps back to back into the compacted tunnels. Cover the opening with some weed block or board to block the light going into the run. Day or so got your culprit.
