I’ve got a few fox in the area that I’ve tried to catch and I’m gonna keep trying to catch them, the only problem is there are a lot of dogs around. I’ve tried using a large cage trap but The fox would go behind and take the bait. Any tips on how to keep the dogs out of a foothold Set?

Unfortunately I have no real advice for you, but I can tell you that if you go to footholds scent and things are very important. If something is just a little bit off they will dig the set. And say you used "foxy lure #1" any other sets you used that lure on they will dig. Like I had several sets out with the same lure in a 18 acre pasture and the sets were a long way apart, but they all got dug in one night. So don't know if that helps at all and you probably already knew all that but hey I refreshed your memory if thats the case.

Thanks! I actually didn’t know that. I’ve done mostly water trapping but I’m trying to learn more about coyote, fox, a cat trapping for this season

Use an ADC bait or lure.

On public game lands or in populated areas with dogs i usually just put grape jelly or cantolope chunks in dirt hole. Have noticeable rock or grass wad for backstop behind dirt hole to catch foxes attention. Use NO lure at set. You can place LD call lure some distance upwind from set. Pet dogs usually won,t be attracted to fruit at set. The wild fox & coon WILL check out set, especially early in season. There are exceptions of course. You can use smaller traps like #1 1/2 longsprings if chance of a dog. If using a metal cage trap always fill floor of trap with dirt or sand. Fox don't like walking on metal wire. GOOD LUCK!
