the title says it all. whats a good bait/lure for DP raccoon traps my friend says he put a marshmallow in his DP trap and got one

I have never had any luck with marshmallows I use catfood or corn and some fish oil and this year I'm trying out lenons raccoon all call. Good luck

I use a marshmallow stuck in the top of a dp and some dog food soaked in R&M Midnight Death lure. Works pretty good but the possums like it too

Marshmallow under the trigger, fill almost full with dog food and add some syrup. It will work just as good as any DP bait or coon lure and it's cheaper.

Mix pelletized fish food, molasses and anise oil. Coon love it. I use it year round for ADC work.

Feeding raccoons with the bait level above the trigger isn’t necessary. In fact, it’s a waste of bait! And, if you want to catch ONE coon, marshmallows will do that. I’ve used a lot of things. Dry cat food works well. Put a couple drops of something sweet on the DP rim to coax them into reaching in.

Not all fish oil is created equal. I dont really like pressed fish oil. Its not nearly as effective as some others. If you can get that fat out of a flatheads belly or out of a male spoonbill, that stuff renders out a wonderful oil. Sunrendered oil from their flesh is good too. If you look you can find some good sun rendered trout oil. Very effective. Get one of those GOOD fish oils and put a couple tablespoons in a quart jar. Fill it 3/4 full of dry cat food. Shake it up good coating the cat food. You won't need lure or anything else. They will be able to smell it just fine. Put about a teaspoon full in your DP. If nothing happens in 3-4 days you need to check and make sure mice or something has not eaten the bait. If still baited move the trap if weather has been co-operating.

I make my own bait with cheap dry cat food, molasses, and strawberry jello mix.
I do use a little Cavens moon shine or blackies night bandit too.

I'm pretty new to trapping myself but had a good season on coons this year. I started out with a Peanut butter and dog kibble mixture with some other sweet stuff added that worked great but was messy in the DPs. I caught probably 10 of those coons using a commercial lure that smelled a lot like molasses. Later in the year I mixed it up and tried marshmallows and beaver castor. Also worked great. Butterscotch hard candies also work very well.

I’ve been mixing molasses and dry kitten food in a gallon bag as per instructions from JabNE. Then I put some out in pipes recently to see if there was any interest. Holy Buckets, Batman, the coon couldn’t get enough of it. I also tried the kitten good with Kastz Bros’ Smokin Aces and again, the coon ate everything in one night. The cat food sucks the liquids up and there’s no stickiness to worry about.

I’m afraid coon aren’t going to be worth much this year but I’ll experiment and catch them anyway. It’s a hobby and catching on my own concoction just makes it better.

At my pocket sets for coon i use marshmallows & carmen's coon #1 lure almost exclusively. Dirt hole sets for coon many diff things

I recently got lure for a free gift which is firefly glo coon lure, it smells actually quite nice a change from most lures haha but I find it is nice though im not sure i would actually buy lure for coons but i will use it since it was the gift i picked

agreed, it only takes 1/2" of DRY baits or else you'll gum up the works making cleaning them tween seasons a pain

^^^ you can try putting a golf ball or something of the sort on the opening of the dp to help keep mice away if that is a problem you are having

Outdoors Guy, The Firefly Lure works as well as Moonshine for me. I alternate those and Fox Gland lure either on rim or on Marshmallow flattened and stuffed in the top. Then bait in bottom.

I like Moonshine dripped on the rim of the DP or take and dip a stick in it and lean it over the top of the DP opening. I honestly don't know if lure really makes much of a difference with coon though.
