We shoot them whenever we can get them like other mergansers. Kind of like saltwater birds, seals and whale meat all that stuff. Unless u grow up on it then seems like few acquire a taste for them.

Find they are very sharp birds to sneak up on.

They are mergansers, they should not count toward a duck limit any more than a coot. Here we have a daily limit of 5 mergansers, but may include no more than 2 hooded mergansers. You have to get to lakes/rivers with fish to see them for the most part. They are a very pretty duck. The OP has the right idea putting on the wall, rather than in the pan.

Congratulations I’ve never got one.

Quiet, that’s a great looking mount! Really like how he looks on the rock. Thanks

Favorite duck, I think they are prettier than woodies or any others.

I have a pair in a glass case. Sorry for the reflection from the glass but they are one of my favorite mounts.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Congrats! Are they uncommon in main? They're all we have on the lakes up here right now. They used to not count in your limit here. Stuff them down a dirt hole set and the fox love them!

When I was a kid I received taxidermy lessons from the Northwestern School of Taxidermy in Omaha. They were a Christmas present that cost $11 in the late 60's!. Not long after that we moved to Florida for a bit. There was an old Fish Camp on the Kissimmee River just upstream from the mouth at Lake Okeechobee. On their wall they had a beautiful drake Hoodie mounted. I had seen them on the lake we lived on back in Michigan, but had never seen one mounted before. I was star-struck by it's colors and exotic crest, and there decreed I would get me one to mount. I was an avid waterfowler even then, but it still took me 16 seasons before I got a shot at a decently feathered out drake......I choked up and missed! Not long afterwards I collected a gorgeous specimen. That broke my Hoodie jinx and I had no trouble collecting them from then on.
