If I recall correctly it is suggested to not use gland or urine on that set. Does it cause coyotes to simply just urinate and leave? Others use urine or gland on those sets?

I’m sure everything has been used successfully at this set, just that some are better options than others. Mark Zagger recommends bait/lure that the animal will want to eat and will like the taste off. Ideally, this will help them tho work the set longer as they attempt to get the bait out. Urine/ glands are usually approached urinated on and left. Your looking for something to keep them over your trap for longer.

I used bait with a shot of urine last year. It was my first year trapping dogs and cats. Did pretty well l guess (36) and (8) for first year. Used Dunlops soul taker the whole year. Gonna experiment and compare it against Weizers horse meat bait and Junes flat 360 this year. Gonna set the same way my mentor showed me, in peet moss, pipe,no pan cover, shot of Apple Road coyote urine, bait, and bare handed. I ain't no expert at it,but gained enough confidence last year to make a run at 75 coyotes this year. Will see if bait difference helps or hurts in my area.

Last year I used fresh beaver meat in pipes with urine only and had good results. This year I'm trying fresh beaver meat w/ castor again and tainted beaver preserved with SB w/ castor, venison scraps and then the previous with muskrat.

I used Slims Getter in the majority of my pipes last year and it was my best performing set.

Bait and urine at every one. Additional gland at some, food lure at others...at the base of the pipe.

How much more mean can you be than urine? I mean, its as mean as it can be, all by itself. :-)

If your using it like orginally ment the. The pipe works like a m44. They try to pull the bite out thus causing alot of foot moment over the pan. That being said your gonna want so tho g their going to want to eat.

Other wise you just pounding the pipe in a grass clump and hiding it like a flat set. The pipe works as a weather proofing deal for your bait in that case

No gland , no pee. Food lure formulated to elicit the grab, lick, bite response.

How far out of the ground do you leave the pipe sticking out? Also how far away is the trap bedded? Thanks

This far out of the ground works for me. 8 inches or so from the pipe

John Graham's grab and pull worked good for me last year. You want to use something that they want to eat. Not sure about putting urine in the pipe. If your on location, bait will be good enough. I've backed way off on lure usage, and my catch has increased.

The beauty of the pipe dream is if they come in the wrong way to the set due to the wind, if they get a taste on the top of the pipe AND LIKE IT, they will spend a lot of time trying to get more. And by trying to get more, they will almost certainly go round and round and eventually step on you well-bedded trap's pan.....

Give a kid an ice cream cone, let him have one lick, then take it away from him!

Gland lure ALONE won't usually keep an animal there that long or in the same fashion, same with urine ALONE.....if you HAVE to use those things (which I do) then use them in CONJUNCTION with the yummy stuff in the pipe.

I am sure EVERY reputable lure/bait maker makes a product that the canids want MORE of.....

Some say they may not LIKE the taste, but rather, they want to get at it, carry it off, and roll on it.....

To me, that's the same thing!

They WANT to own it for themselves....whether to eat it or roll on it ! LOL

I always use a little juice out of bait jar and run on pipe. Works for me that way. I run ALOT of different sets. But the pipe set was my top producer last season.
