My dad has never liked scopes. One reason is "wasting ammo". If your not shooting at game in his world you are "wasting ammo". He bought a 308 in the early 60's with a redfield scope. Missed a couple deer and took it to a gunsmith who bore sighted it. Missed a couple more and removed the scope. Had no use for a scope after that. He killed a LOT of game with that rifle. Fortunately the iron sight needed no adjusting. Don't underestimate the hunter with open sights.
That old redfield is now on my daughter in laws rifle. Very clear and very accurate. Had to "waste ammo" to get it dialed but I guess some things can't be helped.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

To put a scope on some guns would be like putting a mustache on the Mona Lisa case in point This old gal is 115yo and would look funny with a scope. It is tapped for a peep sight and I would like to find one that fits because it’s easier for me to see through with these coke bottles glasses I need to wear But she still holds true at a hundred off the bench even with my bad eyes Thanks 160 user the dies work great

Where I live now I am getting back to the open sights. Its hard to see past 50 yards without bringing a brush hog along so there is not real need for a scope. So for now an 1951 vintage Winchester Mod 94 in 30-30 with peep sights it is.

So for now a 1951 vintage Winchester Mod 94 in 30-30 with peep sights it is. Sounds like a great set up. Here is one of the not so clever things I do at times. I load for the 30-30 as well and bought a bunch of 150 grain Sierra pro hunter bullets for it. My ( Not so clever ) thought process was that the 150's would shoot flatter. ... Instead of using heavier bullets with better penetration as the flat shooting argument I had with myself does not really come into play at the short distances I use that rifle. What did make a huge improvement was putting that peep sight on it with optic fiber front sight for low light conditions that one often encounters when stalking through the botanicals at my place. All it take is a cast over day under the canopy of the trees to render the original buckhorn sights pretty much useless. At least with me set of eyes.
