Got another make today. Had to use two traps. He’s been avoiding the first one. That makes three this month in the same area. My question is how many can live in a small area? I always assumed there were a lot of coyotes because I never used to see many fox. But this year it seems to be all I’m catching and the only sign I’m seeing.

A German is like a willow. No matter which way you bend him, he will always take root again.

I know the habitat varies so much from area to area, but I caught 5 grays and 4 reds off one 40 acre pasture in less than a season in middle Georgia. I know there were coyotes all around too. I had to shoot another red earlier in the year out of my chicken pen. So that was 10 fox total on a small pasture. It was excellent Predator habitat all around, but quite a few houses too.

I caught 12+ per year for 3 years out of my mother's back yard. She lived in town. She sold the house just before season this year so I will never know if they are still around.

Wish I had more time to trap....

That's all awesome to know i'm surrounded by farm fields woods and a creek so ill just keep setting for them. I was going to start setting a little farther back for yotes as I didn't want to take too many fox. I guess we'll see how it goes. Thanks for your input guys.

Considering I got <$5 each on my reds at FHA, I’ve been releasing them this season. But it surprises me they’even there considering the coyotes in the neighborhood.

Never too old to learn

Well I got another male in the remake today. I would let them go but the wife’s girlfriend wants them after I tan them. As long as she’s willing to buy them I’ll keep taking them. Females will be let go.

Releasing females won't make a difference if you are just doing it for population. They will fill in anyway. When you find good habitat it will hold fox as long as the habitat stays good.

True statement! In fact it makes the total population healthy and sustainable.
