What size rebar and how long do you guys use for your rods. Also was wondering what you use for the slide and what to use to keep the trap from sliding off the end when you pull it up.

I use 1/2" for beaver. A washer or nut weleded about a foot from the end of the rod keeps the slider from coming off. 8-10ft rods

Thank you. What do you use for a slider.

I use 3/8” smooth rod. Angle iron slider lock and a fender washer stop in deep water end.

Thanks for the info. I’ll see what I got laying around. I think I got a bunch of rebar already.

I made mine with 1/2" rebar. 8' Lengths with a washer welded to the top and a washer welded a foot from the bottom end. I made my slide locks with square tubing and a small flat iron welded to it and bent up. How are the 3/8" rebar or straight rod performing? I have been thinking about trying that next but don't want them to look like a horseshoe when I get a big beaver in them. Thanks

like a champ

I trapped beavers full time for 7 yrs and never a problem and got 17 over 70 lbs.
BUT, you MUST make sure the deep end is secure, if not it'll be pretzeled.
has happened to a couple customers, but they both said they suspected it was not secure but left it alone.

Been using those rods since I started in '03.

you don't need to weld a square/rectangle tube lock if you cut 1 end at a 45* and drill a hole in the long end to attach trap there.

get rods/rebar and lock material cheap at scrap yards

I also cut a "V" in the opposite (straight cut end) in mine. They lock up tight. No welding required.

I thought you were full of it... then I checked out your website. I'll be placing an order soon!

And yes, fiberglass rebar should stay in concrete. I've handled it and it seems like a bad idea to use it trapping.
