Would like to know what methods and cleaning solutions you guys and gals are using to clean those dirty coyotes.
Any and all input will be appreciated.

If extremely dirty wash. Otherwise if just bloody and stained use borax to clean and brighten.
YES, you can use borax to clean fur, especially with regard to dried blood stains. Previously I had always washed bloody hides before drying them. In this situation using borax I simply hand wash excessive blood clot areas, wiped the area as dry as possible with a rag then board the pelt as usual. Once the skin as dried and the fur turned out I work considerable dry borax powder into the stained areas, let set for 10-15 minutes and then comb, brush, and shake the borax out. Using this borax treatment method works extremely well as can be seen in the following before and after pictures. As well as removing blood stains the borax also cleans and brightens the fur. I use an old washing machine for the really bad ones. Otherwise just borax, spray bottle, rag and a brush.

But it's tough to improve on the original , pick on pockets that have good fur,,, there is no way to make these type except a pocket.

I have a washer in my shop. i wash all my fur out fur especially coyote and coon.
I use the rinse cycle in cold water and a little fabric softener.

it does make a difference

Washing machine for really dirty ones, add small capful of dawn.
Let dry rub in borax to them dry.
For the most part I only wash the very muddy and bloody one's.

Let me sugar coat this

They all go through the washer here. Some are dirtier than others but none of them are clean.

Most of my cleaning is done in the drum.

Really bloody or muddy stuff has to get washed. I use a washing machine and woolite.

I avoid full washing whenever possible though.

Final drumming is done with corn cob grit, a quart of HOT HOT HOT water, and Vetrolin. Ten coyotes per load.

The right recipe in a “dry” drum can accomplish most of what washing does on “clean” fur.

Boone,
What is your reason for avoiding full washing? Is there a disadvantage?

It doubles the time on the boards.

That’s already a big bottleneck in the process.

I’m at 24 hours for dry coyotes, 48 for full washed ones.

Pretty big disadvantage in my opinion when it’s something that can be accomplished in a more efficient manner.
